Dimosthenis Daskalakis was born on November 14th 1959 in Athens, Greece. Dr. Dimosthenis Daskalakis is a full Professor of Sociology (“Sociology: social organisation and institutions”) in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been a Member of the Senate in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dean of the School of Education and President/Head of the Department (Faculty) of Pedagogy in P.E.
		He is Head of the "Observatory for the Study of Childhood" of the Social Sciences Research 
		Laboratory 
		of the Faculty 
		of Pedagogy in 
		P.E. in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. From 2005 he was also Head of the Direction 
		“Sociology of Labour, labour market policies – minorities – childhood” 
		at the Postgraduate Studies Program of the same Department and from 2015 
		onwards he is Head of the Direction “Sociology and modern industrial 
		society: Special issues of childhood, social minorities, labour and 
		education” at the Postgraduate Studies Program of the Faculty of Primary 
		Education, of School of Education, of the National and Kapodistrian 
		University of Athens. 
		He has served as Deputy President 
		of the Faculty 
		of Pedagogy in 
		P.E. in National and Kapodistrian University of 
		Athens as well as for two years as 
		Director of the Human Studies Sector of the above mentioned Faculty.
		
		His research interests focus on 
		the following subject matters: a) new technologies – work – education, 
		b) social inequalities and discriminations in work, education, society 
		and 
		social change, 
		c) sociology of childhood, minorities, poverty and social exclusion. He 
		teaches in three postgraduate studies programs in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and he has also 
		taught for a number of years in two postgraduate programs in Panteion 
		University of Athens.
		
		
		
		He is a member of International Sociological Association, of Greek Society 
		for Labour Law and Social Security and a honorary member of Greek 
		Sociologists’ Society. He has participated in many national and 
		international conferences and scientific research. He is also the writer 
		of many published research essays, articles and books. 
		
		As a special scientist, he has participated in high level Councils and 
		Expert’ Committees and especially in the Committee of Labour Experts and 
		Social Security of the Ministry of Labour, in the Central Health Council 
		as well as in joint Expert’s Committees of social partners. He has also 
		represented Greece in many informal and formal fora of European Union 
		and other international organisations.

		Topic of the doctoral thesis: The Labour Status of the Personnel of 
		Public Enterprises.
		Further training: Industrial relations at Glasgow and at Bologna 
		Universities and human resources management at the Hellenic Productivity 
		Centre.
		
		Career
		
		He is a Professor in Sociology (industrial sociology and industrial 
		relations) in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has 
		served as member of the Teaching / Research Staff in industrial 
		sociology at the Faculty of 
		Sociology of the Athens’ Panteion University of Social and Political 
		Sciences, as researcher in the National Labour Institute, as member and 
		Director of the Organization for Mediation & Arbitration (O.ME.D.) for 
		the settlement of collective labour disputes, as external expert of the 
		General Confederation of Greek Labour (GSEE) and of the Labour Institute 
		of the GSEE (INE-GSEE) and as an expert of the National Confederation of 
		Hellenic Commerce (ESEE), while he has participated in many Councils and 
		Committees of Special Experts.
		He has participated as special expert in high-level councils and 
		committees and more specifically in the Council of Experts on Employment 
		and Social Security of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in 
		the Supreme Labour Council (ASE) and in the Central Health Council 
		(KESY), in the Board of Directors of the Organization for Mediation & 
		Arbitration (O.ME.D.) and of the Manpower Employment Organisation 
		(OAED), as well as in Joint Committees of Experts of the social 
		partners.Furthermore, he has represented Greece in many informal and 
		formal fora of the European Union and other international organisations.

		Professor Dr. Dimosthenis Daskalakis was also Member and Vice-president

		Studies “ISTAME – Andreas Papandreou” (1994 – 2004). He had also served as a Special Adviser (non salaried) to the 
		Primminister’s Cabinet (2000 – 2002).
